"All Saints" scapular, 1 Corinthians (12:12 -13): " For as the body is one and has many members, but all the members of that one body, being many, are one body, so also is Christ. For by one Spirit we were all baptized into one body—whether Jews or Greeks, whether slaves or free—and have all been made to drink into one Spirit." One cross, many colourful rectangles. The diversity of peoples and languages finds unity in Jesus Christ, the symbol for community.

"St. Nicholas" scapular  The artist used various red tones to portray the love that was so characteristic of St. Nicholas. That love ranges from bright red, which fills everyone with warmth and comfort, to blood red and violet, which symbolize submission. The three gold circles remind us of the money the saint threw into the three sisters’ room to save them from a life of prostitution. When someone loves like St. Nicholas, he shines like gold for the people. And his own life becomes well-rounded and complete and bright through the love that he gives others.

The artist has placed the cross in the center of his portrayal of St. Lawrence. The cross is a symbol for St. Lawrence’s willingness to give his life for Christ and to put his life in the service of the poor. His life was devotion. The red-hot gridiron on which the saint was burned to death expresses this in a similar way: through devotion, the life of the saint became a blessing for others. So the cross is both a symbol of devotion and a symbol of blessing. Christians have always connected the sign of the cross with blessing.

"St. Boniface" scapular St. Boniface was full of boundless energy. Despite much opposition, he continued his missionary work with toughness and perseverance, but also goodness and love. Eberhard Münch portrays the conflicts the missionary had with the heathens in his tension-filled composition. The miter, crosier, and Bible allude to his task of proclaiming the Good News to the people. The streak of green on the back symbolizes the growth and maturing of the young Germanic church. The very large cross shows St. Boniface’s passion for his task, even though it cost him his life.

"St. Anthony of Padua"   scapular   St. Anthony combined great knowledge and remarkable speaking ability with modesty and humility, with kindness and simplicity. With rectangles in different colour combinations under a golden cross, Eberhard Münch reminds us of the saint’s exceptional speaking ability. And on the back he alludes to Anthony’s famous sermon to the fish. If we trust in the spirit of God in us, our words will touch people and leave a healing track in creation.

In the picture, St. Christopher’s staff is blossoming. It is the staff that God gave him as support. “Thy rod and thy staff, they comfort me,” says Psalm 23. On God’s staff we are able to get through the heights and depths of human existence, which are indicated in the lower area of the picture in the differently nuanced waters. Even the threshold to death loses its threat when we cross it with the staff, ultimately with the staff on which Jesus was crucified.

"St. George" scapular With black bars, Eberhard Münch refers to the dragon who threatens our lives. The shining yellow, the glowing orange, and the flaming red colours express the hope that the dragon will not be able to conquer us, that our life will be successful if we fight as St. George did, with trust in God’s help. In this way, darkness will be transformed into light and evil will be disempowered by love.

"St. Martin" scapular  In the portrayal of St. Martin, the artist has placed the sun of love in the center. The sun of love circles around the cross on which Christ loved us to completion. The cross was the source of love from which St. Martin drew the strength to act for the people. The cross also stands for the asceticism that characterized St. Martin. Hard to himself, he was merciful to others at the same time. The luminance of the red on the back of the picture shows how St. Martin’s love affected people. It was like a bright fire that warmed and illuminated. Through Martin, the people learned what a person is capable of doing if he allows himself to be led by the love of Jesus Christ.

"St. Elisabeth of Thuringia" scapular St. Elisabeth is always shown distributing alms, washing poor people’s feet, and carrying a basket of bread or roses on her arm. Eberhard Münch limited his portrayal to the miracle of the roses. The muted colours point out the poverty and simplicity of the saint who gave up all the privileges of her class in order to care for the poor and the sick with supreme humility. In her poverty, Elisabeth gave love that enchanted the people. These people did not meet with her severity, but rather with her goodness and gentleness. Elisabeth’s love has continued to shine on the people down through the centuries and she has found a place deep in their hearts.
